June, Saturday 4, 1864 near Camp new Hope Church Ga. in front in the diches. every thing quet untill 1 oclock P.M. when we were orderd to the front to relive one Brigad of the 4 Ary Corp got our posision at dark soon after we started it commenced raining. very Cloudy all day and dismall June, Sunday 5, 1864 Camp near new Hope Church, Ga. 9 oclock A.M. we had a rough old night of it last night we had to lay in the diches with our arms in our arms all night and it rain all nigh[t] Soon as it be came light this morning we perseived that the enemy had evacuated there works. at noon we took up line of march for the rail road and march 8 miles. got into camp at 4 oclock P.M. the roads was so mudy it made it hard [traveling?] or marching
