July, Friday 8, 1864 near Chattahoochie river Ga, in the fore noon we drew ration, at 1 oclock P.M. we were orderd to take posision in the front to the left of the fourth Division, it has ben very hot to day, our line of works are in an open feild, I wrote a letter to day to James, Brown, July, Saturday 9, 1864 Near Chattahoochie river Ga. our Regiment is building breast work to day it has very hot and uncomfortable to day. there has not ben but little or no fireing un till 5 oclock P.M. this after noon, our two armies put me in mind of the Cat a waching of a mouse, one waches the other
