July, Thursday 28, 1864 5 miles West of Atlanta Ga our Corps move to the front and accomplish in geting there line establish with the rest of the A.C. 16th & 17th after some light skirmishing we throwed up a line of breast work with logs and rails go guard at 1 oclock P.M. at that hour the Rebles Commenced to Charge us and [?] up untill 5 oclock they Charge on the 17th,, A.C. and 115th,, A.C. and the [Co?] but all in vain they was (Upside-down, Between the lines of the above:-) repulsed [on there?] attempt our losses was light Our Regt. had 11 wounded 1 kiled Col,, Caskaden was wounded in the head 2 of Co. C was wounded July, Friday 29, 1864 5 miles West of Atlanta Ga. we did not move today we have been under marching orders all day to march at a moment warning. the Pioneer Corps. has been engage all night and day a buring the dead & caring off the rebles wounded. our Corps worked all night last & to day a building breast work. I received 2 letters to day from P.J. Brown. the loss of the [other side was
