August, Tuesday 9, 1864 5 Miles West of Atlanta we were relive at 8 oclock A.M. from picket, we had a disagreeable time last night it rain all night, there was one of Co. D. wounded on picket last eve, I advance with in 8 rods of the enamy this morning with Capt. Darling of Co. A, there was a house that we got up in the seco[nd] story where we could see (Upside-down, between the lines of the above:-) over in to the reble [?
