August, Wednesday 17, 1864. 5 miles West of Atlanta It was rhumored this morning that the enamy was massing there forces in our front, we were orderd to be ready to move at a moment warning at 7 P.M. we packed up our knapsacks and was a going to move out as we received orders to stay the order was cancelled. August, Thursday 18, 1864. 5 Miles West of Atlanta. There has been heavy fireing of all kind all day to day and all a round The lines our division advanced there skirmish line to day. The rhumor is that our right advanced within 1/2 a mile of the railroad 3 miles from were our regt. line very pleasant day. [?]
