October Tuesday 18, 1864 at Home Independence Iowa to day George & my Self went out to [A hors?] farm with a load of rails, we stopt at Mr John Smisers to day I saw no of them only Katy and the old lady. [Caher?]---- I paid 5 dolars to Mr. [Rawes?] for Russel. October, Wednesday 19, 1864 At Home Independence, Iowa Father & my self went 6 miles South of this place after a load of hay. George is a helping to thrash 'Grain to day. it look very cloudy and smokey to day
