Pocket - books. 1 qt. of new milk. 2 eggs - 3 tea-spoonfuls of sugar, 1 cup of yeast. 4 table-spoonsful of melted butter. Stir in flour enough to make a moderately stiff sponge. In the morning dissolve a piece of soda the size of a bean, in a spoonful of warm milk and work in. Bread Boil your potatoes, mash well, add 2 cups of flour, pour boiling water enough to scald the flour -- make a sponge just thick enough to miss being liquid, add 1 cup of yeast -- Brown Bread 1 qt lukewarm water -- 1 qt. brown flour 1 cup molasses 1 cup yeast. For the Teeth Dissolve two ounces of borax in three parts of boiling water and before it is cold add one teaspoonful of the spirits of Camphor and bottle for use. This beautifies and preserves the teeth.
