Sunday January 16th, 1916
A bitter cold day. Vene had a fire in the parlor which was the most comfortable room in the house.  Will and I both read books.  The evening was spent visiting around the sitting room stove.
Monday January 17th, 1916
Vene did washing today.  It was cold but no wind.  I did fancy work and read some.  A letter from Hattie says she is better and hopes to start to Los Angeles the 25th.  When Will came to dinner he told us Lorna Shirts had died this morning.  Only sick a few days.
Tuesday January 18th, 1916
I was at home all day.  I did my ironing and some for Vene.  Wrote some and did a little fancy work.
Wednesday January 19th, 1916
Will and I went to Crenshaws to take a last look at Lorna Shirts.  I went past Caswells green house to see about flowers.  After our call there I went down to Lizzies.  I wrote Hattie.  Vene washed a few more things today.  It began snowing afternoon so Will did not attempt to go to Lorna Shirts funeral.
Thursday January 20th, 1916
Weather warmer.  I did some ironing after cleaning up my room.  Did fancy work in afternoon.  Lydia was sewing so we did some visiting.  We got the first copy of The Iowa City Republican.  It began to rain about five oclock.
