Monday January 1st 1917 Rob came after me about nine oclock. Hattie and I had the New Years dinner together. There was jist the nine of us as in the family. Rob took us all but Will who came home and Ott's boys in the big car for a ride to North Liberty. We all visited there at the house till I came home at 5:30. a very happy new year. Tuesday January 2nd 1917 I gave the house a good sweeping and it was three oclock before I finished and began to write letters and I did some more after supper. I wrote Birdie, Winnie, Lizzie Lindley, Millie, Mrs Falk, and sister Ida, Mrs Flint and a card to Lydia. I read some before bed time. Wednesday January 3rd 1917 I put away some things this forenoon and cleaned bureau drawers. I went down ton at 1:15 and Rob took Hattie and I down to see Uncle Jim. The change in him is wonderful since I saw him in September. I did some errands. Went to a picture show and to the Dr office. Home at 4:30. Read all the evening. Thursday January 4th 1917 Will helped me do a big washing. It began to rain so I had to finish drying the clothes in the house. I did some cooking while I had the kitchen in use. A letter from Lydia. Friday January 5th 1917 At home all day. Did a little sewing. Am very tired from yesterday's work. Mother would have been 91 years old today. Hattie had a party for the Gibbs twins who are one year old.
