Saturday September 8th 1917 It is 37 years today since John & Hattie were married. I was down to Fannies in forenoon. They heard from William, they were afraid he had gone to France. a cousin of Robs (Edward Whetstone), came this morning for a short visit so Hattie and Fannie did not go to Cedar Rapids. I come out home at 3:30 and went back at 5:15. The folks went to town in the evening. I was alone at the old house. Sunday September 9th 1917 Rob came while we were at breakfast and said he would take us to Cedar Rapids. We got away by nine oclock. We did not find any one at home at Ella Rhodes. and Birdie came back on the 6:20 car. Hattie Edgar and I spent the afternoon down at Otts. Rob & Cora want to meet The Blooms who were to come from Belle Plaine. It rained a little. I went to bed early but Hattie & Birdie waited till Edgar left on a late train. Monday September 10th 1917 It was late when we got up. I was down to Fannies awhile. Hattie went to Old Ladies Home meeting. I wrote to Will. a card says he will not be home till Wednesday. I took my mail to town about 5 oclock and paid light and telephone bill. I rode home with Rob, Hattie & Cora over the new north bridge. We three girls spent the evening with Fannie. Tuesday September 11th 1917 Rob took Cora & Lula Bloom to Cedar Rapids for the day. I came out home when they started. Got down at 1.15 and spent the afternoon at home with Bird. Hattie over to Aunt Libs after going up town of an errand.
