Sunday January 1st 1905 It was a nice day. It was late when we got up so it was late when we got down home. They had such a good dinner and visit. Alma was there and George Foltz from Cedar Rapids. We came home early. I read till early bed-time. A very ordinary start for a new year. The great thing to be thankful for is we are all alive and well. Monday January 2nd 1905 We were up earlier this morning. Walter began work by the month. I did sweeping though there were flurries of snow. It brightened up at noon and Will took me down to Mrs Seydels funeral.. I got Mother over-shoes for a birthday present and left them at home. I worked on tatting and read in evening. Walter busy about the place. Otts family went to Marengo for a four weeks stay. Tuesday January 3rd 1904 I had churning and cake baking on hand this morning and the dinner to get. Walter went to the timber. I went down to Mrs Robinsons in the afternoon. It was a bleak cold day. Will was busy with the stock all forenoon but read in afternoon. I worked on my tatting and read when not busy with the work. They had a woman helping sweep down home.
