and imports true piety & Religion towards him; & I proseed to ye second consideration of sincerity as it regards men & so it signifies a simplicity of mind & manners in our conversation and carriage one towards another; singleness of Heart discovering it felt in a constant plainness & honest openness of behaviour; free from all insidious devises & little tricks & fetches of Craft & cunning; from all false appearance & deseitful disguises of our selves in word & action; or yet more plainly, it is to speak as we think & so do what we pretend & profess; to perform and make good what we promise & in A word really to be what we would seem & appear to be (I fear) most of that complement; which is current in conversation and which for ye most part is nothing but words to fill up the Gaps & supply ye emptiness of discourse; & A pretence to that kindness for persons; which either in truth we have not; if done with
