45 In the Field in Tennessee Dec 21st 1864 Wensday Stoped in Camp near Carters Creek ,all day. ponton bridges have to be laid on Carters Creek & the Rebels are still in Columbia on the South Bank of Duck River & oppose our passage of that Stream which is greatly swolen with the Recent Heavy rains so that is hard flanking them as it Cannot be forded by Cavalry at Present. very Cold with rain & frost alternately
