49 Columbia Tennessee Dec 23rd.1864 Friday Stoped in Camp on North bank of Duck River the Cavilry of Hatchs Division are Crossing the River on the Ponton also the 4th Corps Infty which is using the bridge to its utmost Capacity. We are getting slowly to be pursueing a Retreating & Crippled foe But Gen Thomas I supose has Reasons for so slow motion which we dont perceive. Wrote to Mrs C.J. Henderson sending (Vertically, at right:-) the Photographs of Wm Jordan & G.A. Burroughs
