52 In the Field Tennessee Dec 25th.1864 Sunday Christmass Morning dawned on us as we Lay in Camp 5 miles South of Columbia The weather is mild & pleasant Compared to what it has been since the Battles before Nashville. Although favorably situated as Soldiers, we fail to find the Kindly greeting of Happy Friends, The sunny smiles of Mothers, of Wife, & sister, The sweet music from Happy group of Children as they exibit their treasured wealth of Christmass
