178 The weather was most beautifull to day. the sun shone with warmth & heat, and the river was smooth and placid & Glided smoothly towards the sea. the ships or sea going Craft were tugged inward & outward by steam vessels, This Climate is sometimes lovely even in winter. But the head of the serpent of recession is over it all
