197 Lake Ponchartrain March 6" 1865 Monday left the landing last night, and sailed all night along lake Ponchartrain, and across lake Borigne, and entered the gulf proper today the wind was some what high & the gulf rather rough and our boat very inadequet for the Transportation of Troops on such waters But sailed over the gulf in safety or a portion of it at least went through Grants
