198 pass and entered Mobile Bay about 4 P,M, passing fort Powel, and [rounding?] to and Landed at near Fort Gaines on Dauphin Island. where Gen Granger with the 13th Corps are already Camped. The Island is a low sand Beach .Covered partialy with stunted pines & Chaperel & at some distance it has the apearance of Drifted snow with green bushes stouck at irregular intervals
