237 Siege of Spanish Fort Ala March 21" 1865 Friday I spent this day with Co. C. on the skirmish line, & for 12 hours we were under the severest artillery fire I have ever seen, the enemy shelled the rifle pitts in which we lay with mortars. Columnbiads Siege guns & guns of every Calibre & as we were in the direct line of fire with some of those guns I saw plainly the Bullet shells, from and to the Forts, But only
