240 Siege of Spanish Fort Ala April 2d 1865 Sunday I wrote 3 letters to day one to Jane one to Mr. Durno Ill one to D. B. Henderson. our folks have opened on the Fort with mortars & 50 lb Parrots which seem to have good Range on the Fort, But not much firing of artillery on either side except the mortars which are being worked briskly, But at 5 oclock the Enemy opened Heavily
