265 On the March in Alabama April 16th 1865 Sunday Marched at 6 A.M. our Div in front. the settlements are more frequent to day & by an order from Canby we are to subsist as much as possible on the Country. But only by order of proper officer & men Detailed for that purpose. some of the settlers I saw to day show their decent from the Seminoles of this Region & Florida. Marched 20 miles to day & Camped at 3 oclock P.M. (Vertically, from bottom left:-) Major Knee Comd'g the Regt gave me a ride on His Horse for about 2 miles which rested me Considerably this march is quite Hard on me & on all our feet as the [?
