267 On the March in Alabama April 18th 1865 Tuesday Started at 6 1/2 A.M. wadded the Little Escambia River this morning and Continued the march for 18 miles through a richer tract of Country than we have yet seen in this Part of the State plenty of forage for our Stock But the Beef, Hogs & sheep are very poor indeed at this season nearly every House we pass has a White flag exposed in token of Surrender & protection which is granted (Vertically, from bottom right:-) as Guards are placed at every House to protect House hold property of every description from the passing soldiery
