270 On the March in Alabama April 20th 1865 Thursday marched 10 miles to day our Regt Train Guard in the rear of Div, We passed several Rebel Soldiers on their way Home, the peace reports seem to be believed and welcomed by the Civilians along our Rout. groups of Women & Children Come to the road to see us & talk of peace they hang out white flags on some of which. marked Union for ever. The United (Vertically, from bottom right:-) States for ever and [good wishes?] so they are prepared for peace at least (Vertically down, from top left:-) 8 10 17 18 18 10 20 18 11/ 134 miles to [Greenville?] from [Spanish?] Fort
