276 On the March in Alabama April 24th 1865 Monday Marched only 10 miles as we were the rear Division & Train Guard and the Teams were being loaded with forage from the Plantations which are now quite numerous, & well supplied with stock & forage. The Negroes are leaving their Masters by the hundreds & going with the army. I got a bunch of Beautiful Double Roses by the way ( Vertically, from bottom right:-) side Garden. Gardens are blooming and fields are being Cultivated as we near the Capital of the State
