282 Montgomery Ala April 27" 1865 Thursday Our Camp was laid out in Streets by Maj Knee & Capt Reed. and the Companies moved their Tents onto the lines & Commenced fixing up bowers for shade and otherwise making themselvesCcomfortable. I Engaged a Colored Boy to day named Joe Allen, 17 years old & seemingly quite tractable but ignorant as He has been in slavery untill to day when He (Vertically, at bottom right:-) ran away & Came within our lines
