290 Montgomery Ala May 4th 1865 Thursday The Brigade formed in a square near our Camp. and Col Marshall Comdg. Read an official order to the effect that Johnson had surrendered to Sherman with a view to peace & that the war was virtuly over. Recd an order from Canby thanking this Army for their gallantry & Zeal in the Capture of Spanish Fort Blakely & Mobile which resulted in the Capture
