294 Montgomery Ala May 7 1865 Sunday Heard a very excelent Sermon today from Chaplin Edwards of 7th Minn.on the late important Events. A large mail Came up today. I had Two letters from Mrs. Henderson, one from S. L. Henderson & one from Mother. My youngest boy has been very Sick of lung fever, Convalesent at [illegible] Father is failing rappidly I learn & I fear I may not see Him again. weather very warm now, by papers we learn that the Country is overwhelmed in (Vertically, from bottom right:-) grief over the Death of the President. Coming as it did on the day [Rejoicing?] over the success of our Enemies
