16 Selma Ala May 29th,,1865 Monday Visited Mr. Smith this forenoon and got some reading matter, such as the History of some of the Kings & Queens of France by Abbott, the [?] of the life of Josephine is a splendid and [?] lovely in contrast with that of Marie of Austria, Napoleons Second Wife. One man of Co. "A" was sent in from Parade for being under drink. there was several officers under the influence & needed all their resolution to Carry themselves right. Very cold day, some rain,
