14 Selma Ala June 22d 1865 Thursday Wm Benefield Co. C. was removed from the Regt. as He was taken with Small pox. He is in a Tent by Himself in a neighboring orchard. Small mail today, I got the McGregor news it comes out strong as a villifier of General Sherman I do dispise those Military Critics who censure the worthiest action and motives of men who they cannot understand. and during the Storms of War lay safely at Home, & now like the viper sting the men who protected them
