Friday June 4th 1886 I felt very much better this morning and we packed up our things and left Portsmouth on the "Bonanza" at eleven oclock. That manner of travel was a grateful change from railroading. I enjoyed the afternoon very much. Saturday June 5th 1885 We woke up in Cincinnatti and after breakfast changed boats taking passage on the "Ohio" for Evansville. In the forenoon Will went up into the city to see a cousin of his and in the afternoon him and I went out to the zoological gardens. We got back about four oclcok and the boat started out at five. Sunday June 6th 1886 We spent a pleasant day on the boat. While we waited at Louisville for two hours Will went up into the city and brought back with him a cousin who staid with us till the boat was ready to start. Will and I sat and talked on the deck all the afternoon. Monday June 7th 1886 We arrived at Evansville at eleven oclock and left the boat at once for the depot. We were obliged to wait there till five in the evening them went to Mattoon to stay till morning. Tuesday June 8th 1885 We arrived in Delavan before nine oclcok and went directly to Venes where we spent the day visiting. neither one of us felt well. In the afternoon the Duncan girls called and we promised to go down there tomorrow. I wrote a few lines home today. The head and dust is awfukl bad.
