Sunday July 4th 1886 Hatt and the children came over early and staid all day. John had gone in the country. It was warm so we did nothing but sit around to read and rest. The evening was spent on the porch. Monday July 5th 1886 I washed some today. It was an extremely warm day. I tried to practice in the afternoon but could not. They finished the hay today. About six oclock Robinsons house burned down and nearly everything that was in its. We feel sorry for them Tuesday July 6th 1886 I ironed in the morning. It was too warm a day for my use. We all laid around to sleep after dinner but Mother and May they went down to Robinsons. We did not make a fire to get supper. The evening was spent on the porch. [the following texst is written vertically in the right margin of the above entry] Lee got home. Wednesday July 7th 1886 I did not feel well and was lying down awhile. I got up after that and went out in the lot with Will to look after the the pigs. In the afternoon I went with him to wash the buggy and after supper we drove to town. a little cooler but no rain yet. Thursday June 8th 1886 I walked to town this morning and Will come over to Hatts for dinner. In the afternoon him and I went over to Ed Lucas for a call as soon as we got home Mrs Hart and John O. Neal from Chicaog called. We done chores and got supper after they went away and all hands were out on the porch all the evening. weather a little cooler but no rain.
