Saturday February 3rd 1883 Weather very cold. I was working about the house most of the day Mother and Bridget were both gone to town a while Otto and I started out to Fletchers about five oclock We had a very pleasant visit and came home about ten oclock. Weather very cold indeed. Sunday February 4th 1883 Still cold the thermometer stood 19 degrees below zero this morning. As usual I was all the forenoon doing up the work. Mother went to town in the afternoon. I finished reading "Mill on the Floss" by bed time and was wonderfully impressed with it. Monday February 5th 1883 The thermometer marked 32 below this morning but moderated before noon. We washed in the forenoon. Mother and Rob went to the valley in the afternoon. I was busy knitting
