To Wash and glaize Furniture Mary Stewart - Put some Salt into the lather you wash it in - then put a lump of Alum and some Salt into a quart of Cold hard Water - and when dissolved add this to as much Cold hard Water as will rince it well - When dried; make a Starch of a pound of fine flour boiled to a nice consistency - dissolve four ounces of gum and add it to the flour Starch - try a bit of the linen and make it of the Stiffness you wou'd wish it - This is for large quantity of furniture You must proportion it according - Send it to be Collendered by a Dutch hot press. - Purifying Dwellings The following is a Dr. J. G. Smiths recipe for purifying Dwelling houses where contagion is supposed to exist - for the discovery of which that gentleman received a grant of 500[pds?] from Parliament - Take 6 Draems of powdered Nitre 6 Draems of Oil of Vitriol mix them in a Tea Cup - by adding to the Mitre one Draem of the Oil at a time -
