Milk - avoid frequent use of Soups and green vegitables - excepting onions and Leeks - In liquids Porter of the best quality is recommended above all other Malt liquor except the best ale six Months old, to be taken in moderation - avoil small beer New ale and the frequent use of ardent Spirits - above all attend to cleanliness and warm clothing. - Cloryde of Lime from the Manchester Courier If a quarter of a pound of black oxide of Manganese be put into a Cup or basin and about a teaspoonful of Muriatic Acid poured upon it then will soon rise sufficient Chlorine gas for a large room. - It may be necessary to add everyday a little acid and to shake the Manganese a little - If too much acid be used the chlorine will be felt to be unpleasant - The Manganese will lose its efficiency for a fortnight - as Manganese is Sold wholesale at 10 or 12 a Cwt and is retailed at four pence a pound - and Muriatic acid is sold wholesale for about three halfpence the pound in measure and is retailed at a reasonable rate pr ounce by every Chemist for less than the expense of two pence and with little or no trouble a
