82. For the Hooping Cough - To an infant a few months old, give a quarter of a grain of powderd Alum in a spoonful of mfnr & ebter three time a day upon a empty stomach, increase the dose the second day to half a grain, & give that quantity as directed till the cough is removed To a child a year old half a grain of Alum increase till one grain & give that dose till the complaint is gone - a child four years old may begin by ten grains increase each dose half a grain till quantity amounts to twenty or twenty five - the bowels should be gently affected of course attention must be paid to this point, & the dose regulated accordingly no other medicine must be administered except in metric in the first instance if half a step appears desirable except in the case of infants a milk diet should be avoided as far as possible - the cough leaves generally in a fortnight - Mrs Strong.
