Monday May 26th 1879 I put in the forenoon or the most of it talking with Mr [Carney?] he started to the country about eleven oclock. After he got away Jennie and I were visiting with the expectation of keeping it up all the afternoon when Rob came down saying he had finished his business up town and we would start home by one oclock. I didn't really feel ready to go. I left a note for Mr [Carney?] to tell him good bye. We had a splendid afternoon's drive and got to Marengo at eight oclock. I was tired and went to bed early. Tuesday May 27th 1879. We started on home this morning bringing Artie with us. When we got down to [Aunty?] Walker's it was raining quite hard and we stopped there til after dinner and got home by three oclock. After supper Kate and I went to town. I done nothing at all in the evening but write a short letter to Jennie, the girls played cards. I went to bed early. I found a note from Mr [Carney?] here when I got home this afternoon.
