Wednesday July 2nd 1879 We got the work done early and Lee and mother went to town in the [phaeton?]. I worked all the forenoon picking over gooseberries. We put up twelve quarts after dinner. As soon as we were done, mother went to Fletchers and did not get home till dark. I cleaned out my closets in the afternoon. When I went to get supper put up a two quart jar of cherries. I wrote a letter to Miss Lewis in the eve. We heard from Rob. Thursday July 3rd 1879 It was very warm today I washed and ironed both a little. And baked cake before dinner. Mother and I picked currants for jelly in the afternoon. It rained very hard about for oclock. I went to bed early. Friday July 4th 1879 Mother and I soon did up the work, and both went to town. As it had rained last night we concluded to not go to the valley today. I staid to Win till after dinner and then she came home with me and stayed till evening. A quiet pleasant 4th.
