Wednesday December 24th 1879 I sewed all day and evening on Mays dress and got it nearly done. Hatt went over to Wins and did not get home till bedtime and brought Mays doll with her. We have concluded to have our party next Monday night and Rob wrote invitations tonight. I answered Mr Berlins note. Thursday December 25th 1879 We did not make any difference for Christmas. I sewed till noon and in the afternoon did a washing. John was over about noon and he said John Middleton was dead. Mother went over there this afternoon. Friday December 26th 1879 We girls cleaned the three boarders rooms this forenoon. Lee and I went to John Middleton's funeral this afternoon. We went on up to Johnsons and got a load of evergreens. We put in the whole evening making mottoes and moments for the windows. Weather chilly and cold.
