Monday December 29th 1879 We did not get up very early the morning but worked faithfully when we did. It took till three oclock to get the house all cleaned up. We had dinner then and took the carpet out of the dining room and got it ready for dancing. The folks came from Grinnell, Rob went to the depot for them. The folks began to come before eight oclock and by two there were fifty people here. It was a beautiful winter night. All afforded to have a pleasant time. To me it was a sad anniversary and there was none of the company here that I had to my forty nine years ago, not one. What changes a few years make.
