Friday December 27th 1889 We got up late this morning. Mother went to town in the forenoon. We visited with Ida all afternoon and just before supper Aunt Sarah and Grace came. We spent a pleasant evening with them. weather fine. Saturday December 28th 1889 I helped with the work some this morning and then Will and I got ready to go to Vinton. We stopped at Hatts awhile on our way to the depot. Brown met us at the depot and took us up to his home. Late in the afternoon Mrs Brown and I called on Mrs Rich. She and Mr Rich with Mr Evans and his Mother spent the evening with us. There was a shower of rain late in the evening. Sunday December 29th 1889 It was a cold windy day. We went to hear Mr Pottle preach in the morning and called to visit with them in the afternoon just before time to go to church. We went to call on Mr Eavens folks and then to the Presbyterian Church. We had lunch and visit after that. Monday December 30th 1889 The wind had gone down and it was a bright morning. We spent the most of the day at the college with the Browns. They went with us to Rich's for supper where we spent a pleasant evening. From there we went to Pottles to stay all night. Our visit there was most pleasant. I was very tired tonight. Tuesday December 31st 1889 We spent the morning with Pottles and they came with us to the depot to start for home at ten oclock. We stopped in Cedar Rapids about four hours to visit with Newt and Emma Porvin and Emma came with us to the depot when we started home. Mother went over to Otts before night and after supper Will and I went over to the party. They had a pleasant company and Fannys supper was very nice. We came home soon after twelve in a storm. So ends 1889. The last ten years has seen many changes in our family. With four weddings and one death.
