Camp Wayne May 19 1861 Mrs Sarah Davis Dear Wife Yours of the 17th came to hand yesterday and I was glad to hear that you had got through safe but Sorry to hear that you had to walk so far. I am Still enjoying good health as also is most of the boys. Byron and R T.Walton are both at home, Walton to get cured of the itch and Sile to cure his knee where he hurt it playing Ball I got a letter from Newton yesterday and he said that Dunbar had got the Express from him So I expect he is verry much humbled. He and Mother are both well. Bennett did not get to be our Colonel consequently no promotion as yet in our company but may be within the next week but nothing verry certain. We get our guns tomorrow and uniform in 12 days and I expect that we will be moved from here in 15 or 20 days but do not know where. There will be a vote taken this week by this Regiment to know whether we will go into the United States service for three years or during the War or Stay in the State service one year. I am Sure the vote will be to stay in the State but if it would prove otherwise we would be Started to the east immediately. I do not know whether I will get to go to Liberty again before we leave here or not as the rules are getting very strict. There is a large number of people in the
