There was true disappointment on many of our boys when they heard the fight was over for they truly wanted to participate in the battle. We ware then Ordered forward and about 2 miles from where we stayed we came to the Rebels camp and I have not time to describe it only to say that it was verry strongly fortified, and that evry thing in it had been abandoned. Tents provisions clothing 200 horses 7 cannons a large number of Wagons &c to the amount of One hundred thousand dollars fell into the hands of our men. We marched on to the top of the mountain and there came to where the battle was fough and for the first time I saw a battle field. All the dead that was near ware collected together and I went to a hole and looked and there ware 30 Rebels piled into it ready to cover up. We ware hurried on so that I did not go to see the wounded and dying. but Wm Serring was there yesterday and said that they had found and burried 144 Rebels and ware finding them in the
