the bushes and Rocks all the time. They mound 30 in a cole pit and 16 in gutter where their friends had hid them to keep our men from finding out how many ware killed. A great many of them are wounded and are prisoners and some are dying evry day from their wounds 11 of our men are dead and several wounded. Among the badly wounded is Cap Chris Miller but he is said to be getting better We left the Battle field and followed on to Beverly where it was expected they would make a brave stand but when we got there we found the town entirely deserted by both Inhabitants and soldiers. We then followed on Kenttonville where we ware told they would make a stand but when we got there we saw about 50 of them making for the mountains. They fled to the top of the mountain and there come to a halt and we encamped at the foot of the mountain and yesterday went up to attact them but they ware gone. The Rebels at Laurell hill when the heard of the defeat at Rich Mountain broke for the mountains all but 600 who ware captured by Gen. Morris
