Camp of 15th Reg Ind. Vol. Tigerts Valley Virginia Aug 1st 1861 Mrs. Sarah Davis Dear dear wife Your kind and more than welcome letter of the 21st of July came to hand 3 days since and I now embrace the first oportunity to answer it. I am in the enjoyment of excellent health hoping this will find you and the dear little ones better than your letter left you but I was truly glad that it was nothing worse than the Chicken pox that ailed them. I am verry sorry that you have such hard times and that some people have such little souls as to bother you for money at the present time but there will be such people. I suppose what you paid H. Husted nearly made matters square with him That was a debt that it was right to pay as most of it was for money that I borrowed of McWhinny the last time I was at home. But as regard to Walton his was for Boots and his regular time of settleing is Jan 1st consequently dont bother yourself about it. As regards to F. D. Tappen I do not properly owe
