But as to getting a furlough I am going to try some of the Secret dodges on Our Colonel and see what effect it will have. You remark in your letter that you wish I was there to eat dinner with you so I will say that I wish so too but I do not know whether I would know how to eat at a table or not for my way of eating is to take my tin cup plate and spoon with Some coffee in the cup some poorly cooked beef or fat pork and a cracker or Slap Jack made without any thing but flour and water, and then sitting down on the ground tailor fashion and pitching in and trying to think that that is all the way I ever knew how to eat and try to immagine that I am enjoying myself and perhaps I would be if I could keep from thinking of my pleasant home far far away but enough of this as I am a soldier and must take a soldiers fare. The Mountains are covered with Black and Whortle berries and some times we can trade a little Coffee with some of the F. F. Vs. and get some potatoes and corn bread which makes
