luckey enough on Sunday last to find a nice bean patch which made our dinner consist of corn beans & potatoes boiled with pork which made us all think of home very strongly. It is just 2 months today since we ware sworn into the U. S. service but no pay as yet and I se no prospect of any so I have to console myself with the Idea that it will be the more when it does come. I see by the papers that Newton sends me that Congress has increased our wages 4 dollars per month which will make it some better. If hostilaties are not too pressing I think I will get a furlough but I will have to pay my own expenses. which will be one month gone sure but that will be no drawback to me if it would be two month wages as I intend to come if I can get off By what you all write Liberty must be a verry dull place this summer but if they are at work on the Rail Road I should think it would help matters considerable. I see by Newtons letter that he is not certain of getting a place in the Telegraph Office as yet but if he can get such a situation I think it would be best for him, but I want you to tell him for me and for himself that he had better Study his Dictionary a little closter as I see he spells quite badly in his letter and that would be a great draw back in his getting a situation if he wrote that way to business men. Enclosed I send an Order to Henry Husted to send me some Stamps as I know you have not the means to get them without injury to yourself and I have nonthing to send you at present to get them with so I take this method. I bought 9 sheets of paper
