have a poor opinion of his composition for to think it would disgust any one who has not heard from him before for 3 months, If I was in your mothers place I would not own that I ever lived in any country particularly in free America. I think from what I can geather from the letter they are haveing something of a family Storm among them, but I guess it is like all other Storms that is it will soon blow over and become clear and calm again. I am Sorry to hear of Cousin Johns beravement as it must be truly hard for any One to part with the partner of their bosom. That is the first I knew that his wife was weakly I see by Vans. letter that he is going to peddleing fruit trees so you can get him to help you and make out a bill for to set out on our lot. Cap Bennett does not like for some of the letters he sends home to be made quite so public as they find the way back to our camp. and it is spread on most too thick sometimes for the boys here as it puts them to wondering where them skirmishes took place and who ware engaged in them for they cant recollect of hearing the guns crack. After reading the account of the skirmishing which he gives an account in the Herald of the 21st I remarked to the boys that the fights ware a good eal like some of the western towns, that is all on paper. I am fearful that his big battles that was and will be with the 15th Reg will soon be proverbial. Dont on any consideration make this part of this letter public as it might cause hard feelings. I hear it is reported allready in Liberty that we have. (that is him and myself,) have allready had a fuss which is untrue but I dont know how the news got to Liberty. The first skirmishing that I have heard of being done by our Regiment in reality took place today between one of our companies and the enemys advance pickets, there was some fireing on both sides but no lives lost that we know of. One of our men is still missing tonight but may turn up in the moing. The skirmish took
