The advance pickets of each army have been in a few hundred yards of each other all week but as yet there has been no attact by either party The Rebels appear to be about Stationary but our forces are gradully drawing closter to them and no doubt there will be a collision soon but how soon I do not Know nor do I think any one Knows, and as to their numbers we do not Know whether they are great or small. When we got to camp today we was told that Cap Bennett had the appointment of Major in some Regiment in Indiana and was ordered to report himself at Indianapolis as soon as possible and he Starts in the morning if nothing happens. By that means there will be a vacancy to fill in Our Company Officers. I think I could get 2/3 of the votes of the company for Captain but by accepting it, it would make verry bad feelings with both Lieutenants and would make bad work in a company so I shall give way and let both Lieutenants advance one grade higher and accept the 2nd Lieutenancy. (That is if I can get it). I was in hopes that some One who had rented the rest of the ground around our lot would rent it also, but if they will not I do not know exactly what to do about it as I do not see how I can get it fenced this fall.
