Saturday evrything was quiet on both sides but we ware looking for an attact evry hour and was told by some of the prisoners that we would be strongly attacted on Sunday so we lay close all the forenoon but saw no on worth mentioing and after awhile on examining closely we found out that they had Retreated during the night and ware then out of our reach, which appeared to be a mystery to our Officers. They have fell back to their Old camp and we are still strengthening our position. and I have charge of 30 men today who are to go forward to a certain point and cut away some timber and brush and among other things a fine Orchard of peach and apple trees which belongs to a Secesh. The Idea in cutting it away is to get a view of the enemy before they can get clost enough to plant cannon. Evrything is activity about Camp and Something will be done before a great while, sure. I am glad to hear that Ella has come to Stay with you as it will not be so lonesome with you and she can no doubt administer to your cumfort better than any One els. I am promised a furlough as soon as matters are settled here but I do not Know whether I can get off by the 1st of Oct. or not but I am fearful that it will be a week or two later but soon as I can I am Comeing sure. You no doubt Know before this time that I have got a promotion. I am 2nd Lieut. of our Company and am
