occupying better quarters than heretofore. I have a large tent for my own use and in marching I do not have to carry my baggage but have it hauled and I am allowed baggage enough so that I can afford to Keep more cumfortable than heretofore. I have for the sake of Convenience and econemy taken McCasterline Wm Serring and Sam Minor to mess with me. Mc is in Comisary department and Sam is Waggon master so if there is anything good going they have a chance to get at it. Serring has not got well yet and is in the Hospital but I am going to bring him away this morning. I will need some more clothing than what I have been haveing such as Shirts drawers and other notions which I can now be able to carry which I will have to get from home. We have been promised our money and clothes this week and they commenced issuing clothes yesterday so I hope we will soon have some money. Tell the children I am much obliged to them for wanting to send me some grapes & peaches and that they may have my Share. Tell them I found some Grapes in the woods last monday that ware the largest and nicest ones I ever saw in my life and that get some peaches most evry day I am sorry to say that I lost the paper that I was Keeping my diary on for the last 9 days so I cannot send it to you at present How is it I wonder that you did not get any letter from me for 2 weeks as I sent 3 or 4 in that time. I will have to stop for the present as I must go with the choppers I will fill another sheet or two and forward this week. Your Affectionate husband A. F. Davis
